Born in Jamshedpur, India in 1951 and educated in Loyola School Jamshedpur with degree from Senior Cambridge Board and subsequently Degree in Business Management with Marketing as major from Banaras Hindu University (BHU), Varanasi, India in the year 1971.

35+ years of professional career starting from as a Marketing Executive with TATA Steel in the year 1971 and subsequently moved into Marketing & Management assignments with various reputed clients along with entrepreneurship in the travel industry in Jamshedpur.

26+ years in the consumer advocacy starting from as a volunteer in the Consumer movement in India since 1983 as the founder Managing Trustee of the Consumer Guidance Society of Jamshedpur. At present Managing Director & Trustee of Consumer Online Foundation and Chairman of Cell for Consumer Education & Advocacy (CCEA) based at New Delhi, India.

10+ years as an International Expert on User (Consumer) Focus for developing Strategies and capacity building programs in developing countries on Quality Management Systems for public and private organisations. Have been engaged as a short term consultant with UNDP, UNICEF, UNCTAD, WHO, World Bank, GTZ, British Council, DFID, GAIN & EPOS. These assignments have provided international exposure and opportunities to work with the NGOs and Not for Profit organisations in developing countries. Member of various professional bodies like American Society for Quality (ASQ), Quality Council of India (QCI), National Accreditation Board for Accreditation of Certification Bodies (NABCB) and others.

Traveled abroad extensively in more than 30 countries to study issues concerning consumer empowerment and as a member of delegations and missions.

Attended all the six Intergovernmental Negotiations on the Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC) at Geneva from 2000 to 2003.

Signatory and Founder Governing Council Member of Consumer Coordination Council (CCC), the National Coalition of 70 leading Consumer Organisation of India in the year 1993. Elected as the Chairman of CCC for a two-year term 2003-05.

Former CEO & Executive Director of Voluntary Organisation in Interest of Consumer Education (VOICE), one of the consumer organisations of India based in New Delhi. Played an active role within Consumers Internationals (CI), which has 250 member organisations in 120 countries. Attended 16th, 17th & 18th World Congress of Consumers International in 2000 (Durban), 2003 (Lisbon) & 2007 (Sydney).

Member of the newly constituted Food Safety & Standards Authority of India, Governing Council Member, Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), Government of India and several working groups on Government Policies like the Mashelkar Committee for Review of Drugs Regulatory System and now a member of the Working Group Chaired by Dr. P. N. Tandon on the Scientific and Technological Measures to Counter Spurious and Sub-standard Drugs and Diagnostic Centres.

Represented Consumers International (CI) in various international negotiations as a member and head of CI delegations at various international committee meetings of Codex Alimentarius Commission, World Health Organisation (WHO), World Health Assembly (WHA), Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC) & International Conference on Renewable Energies.

Represented India as the member of the Indian delegation as a consumer representative at the Codex Alimentarius Commission (CAC) and the Codex Committee on Food Labeling (CCFL) and ISO meetings abroad. In November 2004 lead the Indian delegation at ISO, TC 126/WG 9 Meeting at Geneva.

Published several research papers on consumer behavior and perspectives on complaint handling mechanisms, accessibility, affordability and quality of service related issues on Medicines, Electricity, Water, Banking, Insurance, Health Care, Telecom and others for the World Bank, WHO and National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA) and Government of India. Managed projects on developing campaigns and strategies involving consumer organisations in the health sector reforms, food safety & standards and Good Governance issues in Public and Private Enterprises.
